The Bringing of the Bones: The Journey

It was the strict rule of the dictatorship that when a prisoner died, his family was not informed as to where he was buried. So Kerimi, who today still works as a grave digger in one of Tirana’s burial grounds, was the only civilian to accompany my father, Constantino “Dino” Martiko, to his last residence. On that day in 1985, only Kerimi, two police officers and a soldier took part in the burial.
