For the 1.2 million tourists who invade the island of Corfu every year, the tiny islet of Pontikonissi is like something out of a fairy tale. It has become a symbol of Corfu and is often pictured in advertisements. The whole time we lived in Albania this was a symbol of freedom, our “Promised Land.” We had hung a print of this view in our home, where it aroused the suspicions of a Sigurimi officer.
